Coach Thompson arrives at Hitters with decades of professional playing and elite development experience, and a résumé that spans back-to-back junior college national championships, an eight-year run in a Major League organization, a call-up to the game’s highest level, and three separate Hall of Fame inductions.
From Madison College to the Major Leagues
Travis was a standout pitcher at Madison College, where he helped lead the program to back-to-back NJCAA National Championships. Along the way he earned NJCAA World Series All-Tournament Team honors and All-American recognition, the kind of postseason performance that puts a pitcher on professional radars.
It worked. The Colorado Rockies selected him in the 12th round of the 1996 MLB Draft, and he spent the next eight years in the organization.
Eight years in the Rockies organization
1999 was the year everything came together. Travis was named the Rockies’ Organizational Pitcher of the Year and the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year, and he received the call every minor leaguer works his whole career for: a call-up to pitch at the Major League level. He later finished his professional career with the Florida Marlins organization.
Representing Team USA
In 2005, Coach Thompson was selected to represent the United States national baseball team at the Pan American Games in Mexico. Since transitioning into coaching, he has specialized in training collegiate and professional athletes, helping players maximize their development and prepare for the next level of competition.
A Hall of Fame career, three times over
Coach Thompson has recently been inducted into the Wisconsin Baseball Hall of Fame, the Madison College Hall of Fame, and the Pulaski High School Hall of Fame. Three inductions, recognizing what he accomplished at every level he played.
